Course Orientation

Chinatown (meaning literally the Street of Tang People in Chinese) is a part of a city where Chinese expatriates gather. The origin of its name can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty when China had a great influence over the world. Thereafter, foreigners started to call China or things related to China “Tang”, and the Chinese people “the Tang people”. The Tang was founded by Emperor Tang Gaozu Li Yuan, who initially assembled his troops in Jinyang (now Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province) in 617 A.D., and established the Tang Dynasty the following year. During the Tang Dynasty, great achievements were made in culture, science, technology, politics, economy and diplomacy etc. Being one of the most powerful countries back then, the Tang had its fame spread far and wide. Jinyang, the birthplace of the prosperous Tang Dynasty, is a famous northern metropolis in ancient China. Where Jinyang was located is now Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province and a national historical and cultural city, also known as the “Dragon City”.

Shanxi University of Finance and Economics (SXUEF), a university with a long history and special features, was instituted just in Taiyuan in 1951. “Discover Shanxi”, a winter camp organized by SXUFE, will guide you to tour around this ancient yet lively city.
